Waze just took me down an i-95 Express lane and I don’t have the Ez pass.

What happens now? Do I get something in the mail?

You'll get something in the mail. Most likely whatever the toll fee is plus $25 admin fee.

A coworker gave me receipts from driving through Chicago tolls, then said he didn’t have money for the others.

I was able to pay them online within a week. So just look it up, see what you owe.

WHY DID YOU TURN!?! Whenever waze wants to take me through an express lane, I just drive past and watch it get all confused

I was in an unfamiliar area and the lanes aren’t exactly marked the best.

This is also after Waze took me on two giant circles on the same road. The only times Waze has let me down is in this general area and this is not the first time it has happened.....

In Seattle on I-5, there are reversible express lanes that run from Northgate past downtown, maybe ten miles, that are open to anyone. I was once sent down there because it said this was the fastest route. It then said I needed to take the Columbia St exit. But wait — though the express lanes are open to all cars, the Columbia St exit off the express lanes was a CARPOOL ONLY EXIT. So it took me about 30 minutes longer to get there because when said express lanes end and reconnect with I-5, it bottlenecks like a motherfucker.

At least in Chicago, you have 7 days to pay online before you are fined. You need to know which toll it was and the day. From all accounts, the site can be a pain in the butt.

It might be a good idea to get an Ez pass, they are inexpensive and useful. Around here, a pass reduces your toll cost by 50% and can save you a few minutes each trip.

Correct. It's like a parking ticket in that regard. No big deal. It will be a couple of weeks probably. Do you know anyone with an EZPASS?

Phew, thanks.

I probably do, but none of my friends do. I've still got an Ez Pass mount from the previous owner though, haha. It's probably a good investment though.

I did this a couple months ago in my girlfriend’s car. Put my EZPASS in it and when we went through the sign said “not paid” and I freaked out a little. Oh shit, what’s going to happen? How much is this going to cost me?!

I ended up getting a thing in the mail. The toll plus $25 admin fee. So I got on the website and added her plate to my EZPASS and they charged ONLY the toll to my account and removed the admin fee. I didn’t even have to make 1 phone call.

Chicago/iPass gives you a week to pay online; I'm guessing your system is similar. You'll just need to know what toll plaza/booth it was and what time you went through.

I've lived in Wisconsin for two years now, after five in Chicago, and I still keep my iPass for the like three times a year I make the trip down. So worth it.

what state and do you have a front plate? depends what way there camera is facing. Also its like 25$ fine but most places you have a few days to pay it if you accidentally drive thru

Was gets pretty confused about i95 express lanes. Drive me kind of mad if it takes me that way when there isn’t traffic.

You should be fine though. No big ticket or anything. Heck, did that once in my parents car and we never got a ticket or notification or anything.

Weeeeell, that's common sense, not Waze. This was done by Waze and suggested by my friend.

EZPASS doesn’t have a monthly fee in Virginia and I have one for that reason. I don’t use it often but it comes in handy the few times I need to either travel up to DC or use the Expressway in Richmond.

I was joking, I don’t actually think you would turn into a river, but people used to do this when nav first started being common.

I’ve suffered similar problems with Waze. It likes to take you the route that took the least time for other drivers, but apparently has no concept of carpool lanes. In a blinding rainstorm once, I followed the directions and ended up getting on I-90 express eastbound from the diamond lane entrance (couldn’t even see the signs until it was too late). I was stuck there until Mercer Island.

It also likes to tell me to take 520 for a 30-ish second savings in time, which almost invariably ends up being much slower because I either end up in the South Lake Union gridlock or stop-and-go on northbound I-5 after fighting traffic up the hills to get there.

They really need a setting for “avoid tolls” and a way to enable a carpool yes/no dialog so it knows what you can use that trip.
